Without knowing this cultural background of composite presences and articulated and different mental models, one cannot understand the urban development of the main agglomerations that arise in continuity with the terraces of the ravines, the blades and the "ravines". A homogeneous area among the most significant in Puglia, characterized by the phenomenon of the excavation of cave reservoirs and structured by various transmigrations and demic currents, first of all the Byzantine one, which in the early Middle Ages found an easier insertion into the cultural humus of the phase Magna Graecia – of which Taranto constitutes the most significant episode – which had permeated social structures and institutions in previous centuries.
